How we helped an award-winning interiors blogger find the perfect blinds for her 1950s kitchen makeover.

Window blinds can make all the difference to the look and feel of a kitchen, introducing vibrant colour, texture and pattern or simply making the room feel cosier. Yet it’s a room that’s often neglected when it comes to window dressings.

When interiors blogger Cassie Fairy, author of the award-winning My Thrifty Life blog, got in touch for advice about blinds for her newly renovated kitchen, her windows were bare (and had been for over a year). Cassie wanted a product that would give her privacy and encourage the family to spend more time in the room. She also needed something in-keeping with the overall look and feel of her room scheme which was a cool, retro 1950s influenced kitchen with modern touches.

Cassie’s kitchen has a number of windows in varying shapes and sizes, so made-to-measure was her only choice. A durable blind to stand up to the atmosphere in moisture prone rooms was another necessity. And living a thrifty lifestyle, she also wanted something that wouldn’t break the bank – Venetian blinds ticked all the boxes!

Cassie chose a matt white Venetian blind with a 50mm slat, made to measure for her exact specifications and she loves the versatility of her new blinds. They’ve created space on the window sills and when not in use they can be pulled up out of the way to still allow lots of natural sunlight into the room.
