How to Decorate with Gen Z Yellow

Posted August 29, 2018 In: , /

Move over Millennial Pink, social media is being redecorated with a vibrant and spontaneous shade for the next generation.  A whole host of celebs including Meghan Markle, Amal Clooney and Kim Kardashian have been spotted wearing the attention-grabbing shade, christened Gen Z Yellow after the cohort it’s associated with.

It’s banishing blush pink and glossing over grey to become the colour everyone is wearing, adorning their homes in and posting all over their social profiles! So why not create an Insta-worthy home with window blinds in the colour that’s defining a generation with products from our extensive range to get the look.

Our interiors expert Lorna McAleer explains more:

Roughly delineated as those born in the late 1990s and 2000s, Gen Z is a technology-immersed generation that has been raised by the internet. They’re “unique-seekers” and information processors; a restless, multi-tasking, entrepreneurial bunch, with the world at their feet (or more accurately at their fingertips).

It makes sense then that Gen Z yellow is bright, vivacious and unapologetic. The colour of road markings, New York taxis and raincoats. It demands attention!

In a contemporary setting Gen Z yellow suits a modern style of window blinds such as aluminium Venetian blinds with a high-gloss finish. Pair these with dark wood for a grounding contrast.

Roller blinds and vertical blinds offer the clean lines needed to carry this colour and a grey backdrop will offset the brightness to stop rooms looking garish.

My best advice when introducing any daring colour would be to order samples (and you can order up to five free samples here) and see how they look in different lights and within the actual room. Homeowners can also try out different fabrics and types of blind to see how they appear in a range of room settings with our online design tool – DesignSpace.
